#30 Virtual Road trip Day 5

For my final adventure #30 We’re taking a virtual trip through Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.  We’ll be taking virtual tours of different national parks and monuments as well as other attractions, watching baseball games on tv and trying to recreate some of our favorite restaurants and foods. Make sure to follow along for my daily post with pictures, links and videos.

Day 5

Our first stop of the day was the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM).  Multiple people have told us we should visit but we never did.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENT MUSEUM visit - PHOENIX AZ

I’m not really into music, but the virtual tour was interesting to see. I enjoyed the exhibit part split into different countries. I think I liked the Asian section the best.  The videos showed a little more of their other exhibits as well.

Next stop was the Phoenix Zoo.  Their website has a nice Digital Safari with videos, photos and information about a bunch of different animals.

WELCOME TO THE PHOENIX ZOO DIGITAL SAFARI!

I watched quite a few of the videos and enjoyed seeing all the different animals including the sloth, tortoise, tigers, monkeys, elephants and birds.

We then ordered Mexican food from Mi Tierra in Windsor CO.

I had the Cowgirl burrito which had chicken, potatoes, onions and guacamole and smothered with green chili.  It had pico de gallo on top and inside with very hot jalapeƱos.

We have eaten at so many Mexican restaurants in the Phoenix area.  One of our favorites is Tortas Chano, a very good family run restaurant with the best tamales!

You can read my review of Tortas Chano here.  We also enjoyed El Bravo, Rosas, and more.

# 16 Union Station Ogden, Utah

July 23, 2019

On a very hot day we walked from our hotel to have breakfast then after walked to Union Station a few more blocks away.

They had a nice outside area with some trains to look at with paths between.  But between two of the trains we went down the path which was really skinny and the sides just dropped off but I didn’t think too much about it. When we got to the end there was no place to turn around.  So my dad had to back my wheelchair with me in it all the way back out along the path which was terrifying and an adventure in itself.

After the outside part we went back inside to cool down and see what else they had.  Which was four different museums and an art gallery.

The train museum was the most fascinating to me.  They had a caboose display that I could actually get into, a display about train signals and the Golden spike as well as a model train display.

In the art gallery I really enjoyed the nature pictures.  The other museums were mildly interesting. A cowboy museum, firearm museum and a car museum. These museums were alright museums I guess, but just not as interesting to me.

After all of this we headed back to the hotel to rest up. I had quite a bit of fun at Union Station in Ogden seeing all the trains and museums and could’ve spent even more time there.

#12 Ansel Adams early works display Longmont CO

May 15, 2019

The Longmont museum had an Ansel Adams early works display that I thought would be interesting to see so my parents and I took a trip to Longmont for the day. We went to mostly see the Ansel Adams display but we figured we could see the rest of what they had. When we arrived we paid our admission fees eight dollars for me and five dollars for my parents.

This was a display of his early works I thought these black-and-white pictures were very interesting. Most of them were nature pictures mountains, lakes, trees and what not. I especially liked his pictures of the trees one of aspens, one of trees with snow and various others and also a plain basic road picture. There was quite a few pieces of old photo equipment in the exhibit as well.

Once we were done with that exhibit we went to see the rest of the museum. Their next display had Longmont history and was an all right exhibit but just not very big. After this we went out in the courtyard which had a nice place to sit and rest. After a while we went back in to see what else they had. We took the elevator up to the second floor where they had a small display about an Astronaut from Longmont and then to the third-floor which just had a kid’s play area. After that we looked at a few pictures they had in the classrooms and that was about it.

I thought the Ansel Adams exhibit display was rather interesting and was glad I was able to see it but I was rather disappointed in the rest of the museum.

# 8 Ogden's George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park - Ogden Utah

August 17, 2018

My parents and I were visiting Ogden, Utah and on a Friday that was a rather hot day in the 90s we visited the George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park. First we went inside and paid our admission fee. This park has an inside and outside part.  We decided to go to the outside part first and figured after we got hot outside we could go inside and cool down.

Outside had a main path around with dinosaurs to look at including a T. Rex, a stegosaurus, a triceratops, a pterodactyl, a brontosaurus and my favorite the Ankylosaurus. There were also a bunch of grassy areas with trees and some shade here and there.

There were also a few trails that went off the main loop. I went down one and I wish I hadn’t as part of it was a turn that was really steep and a little bit nerve-racking trying to drive down it.

There were also dinosaur footprints that were fascinating to look at.  After a while outside we were hot so we went inside.  We walked through a decent sized room with dinosaur skeletons.  After checking that out we then went upstairs where they had a gem and mineral display. I really enjoyed this and especially the colored gems of various colors purple, green and orange plus some that looked fuzzy were interesting to me. After a while here we were tired so we rested a bit in the parking lot and then left and headed for dinner.

I had quite a day at the George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park although I wish it wasn’t so hot.  I really enjoyed looking at all the dinosaurs and being outside as well as checking out the skeletons and gems and minerals inside.
